Calabash administrator needs to earn trust back

The seaside town of Calabash is buzzing over the new town administrator and his less than perfect past.

Jeremy Cribb has only worked for the town for a few months, and officials have already found some skeletons in his closet.

“It caught us all very much off guard,” said Michael Abushakra, a Calabash business owner.

An anonymous letter was sent to town officials requesting they take a closer look at Cribb’s work history and criminal past.

Turns out, Cribb lied about prior work experience on his resume and has had several run-ins with the law, including impersonating law enforcement and writing worthless checks.

“It’s like lying to your parents. You have to regain that trust, it’s not something that’s just given back to you. So he’s got a hard road ahead of him,” Abushakra said.

Calabash Mayor Anthony Clemmons said, “Everyone deserves a second chance.”

That’s just what Cribb is getting. The town is giving him the benefit of the doubt and extending his probationary period, simply because he has exceeded their expectations in fulfilling his job requirements.

During his short time in calabash, Cribb was instrumental in forming a merchant alliance among the town’s businesses.

He also put together the Fourth of July fireworks show that brought more than 10,000 people to Calabash.

Now, he has to regain the trust of the town’s residents.

Cribb wouldn’t appear on camera, but has apologized to the town and his co-workers, and hopes to get a fresh start.
