Fees may increase for trash in Brunswick County

Video

Body

Brunswick County residents might have to pay more to dump their trash. The board of commissioners has voted to increase waste water fees 14.3 percent, and increase construction and demolition fees from $49 to $56 per ton.

Commissioner Bill Sue said the increase will help keep trash out of the landfill, match Brunswick County trash rates with surrounding counties like New Hanover and Columbus, and cover costs for transporting some trash to a South Carolina landfill.

Sue said the average resident won’t feel the impact unless they dispose of more than one can of trash their allowed each week.
