Whats Happening: October 2-4


Mark your calendar; Riverfest is this weekend. It has come a long way in the festival’s thirty year history. More than 200 craft vendors and concession stands will be there. And don’t forget the invasion of the pirates Saturday night. Riverfest is from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. Saturday. Sunday it is from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Saturday, while you are downtown for Riverfest, check out the Back Door Kitchen Tour, which is a tour of nine unique kitchens and homes in the historic district. Food tastings will be served in five of the houses. Advance tickets are fifteen dollars. The tour runs from noon until 5:00 p.m. For tickets, call 254-6300.

It is time to clean up beaches in Brunswick County. A Big Sweep is happening Saturday at Holden Beach from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Meet under the bridge for trash bags and gloves.

You can party with the UNCW Seahawk Club Saturday night as they Rendezvous on the River. For sixty dollars, enjoy food, drinks, music dancing and fireworks. It takes place at McCarley Gardens at 510 Surry Street. It starts at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are online at www.uncwsports.com or call 910-962-7737.

If you are going out to eat this weekend, why not help a cause at the same time. Rocky Point Fire Department is having a BBQ Pork and Chicken Dinner Fundraiser Saturday. It starts at 11:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. Plates are six dollars.

The Wilmington chapter of Las Amigas is sponsoring a fish and chicken sandwich sale. It starts at 9:00 a.m. at the Water Street Restaurant in downtown Wilmington.

The Third Annual Sunset at Sunset is Saturday at the Village at Sunset Beach. It is located between Ingram Planetarium and the Food Lion. This community block party will feature arts and crafts, as well as a beer and wine garden. It begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m.

You can see the world in Brunswick County on Sunday. An Intercultural Festival will feature dances from different regions around the world. It starts at 1:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. at Odell Williamson Auditorium. For five dollars you can taste a variety of international food from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

There will be a scavenger hunt to find a cure for cancer Sunday. Britt’s Motorsports is hosting Angie’s Amazing Race; a motorcycle and car ride to help raise breast cancer awareness. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. The entry fee is twenty-five dollars. WWAY’s Joe Mauceri is emceeing the event.
