East Carolina to open 3 dental clinics in NC
GREENVILLE, N.C. — East Carolina University named three sites for dental clinics; part of a plan to increase access to dental care for North Carolinians.
The Daily Reflector of Greenville reported Tuesday that the university’s dental school will open community service learning centers in Elizabeth City, Ahoskie and Sylva. The centers are the first of ten the school plans to open.
North Carolina’s ratio of dentists to the population is below the national average. Four counties don’t have dentists at all, and dentists in five more counties are close to retirement.
Dental students will spent their fourth year working at one of the centers. The dental school will open in 2011.
