More than 70 scientists are in Wilmington this week to talk climate.
The National Weather Service of Wilmington is hosting the Regional Climate Conference. It features more than two dozen presentations over two days. Most of the talks focus around the future of the climate here in North Carolina.
“Where is the climate of North Carolina going to be going over the next hundred years? Obviously sea levels could be rising, temperatures could be rising,” said conference organizer Tim Armstrong. “What does that mean in terms of not just the numbers on the weather map, but in terms of diseases, salt water intrusion into some of our well systems? There’s a lot of factors that are being discussed today.”
One of Tuesday’s sessions warned of damaging effects that forecasted sea level rise would have on beaches along our coast.
The conference wraps up Wednesday.
