Marching band showcase – Smashing Hit

It was great to hear the sound of music fill the autumn air at the 13th annual band showcase. New Hanover High band director Tim McCoy said: ” It’s an excellent opportunity for people to see our bands around the county with the fine bands that we have. We have 4 different kinds of shows, 4 excellent high schools. You’ll see some great stuff tonight.”

Laney band director Bob Pearson said the showcase is just that, a showcase. “It’s not a competition. The students put in a lot of hard work. We start at the beginning of August and go hard for 12 weeks leading up to tonight.” Ashley band director Rob Parker added ” It’s everbody’s big night. It’s Ashley’s big night, Hoggard’s, Laney’s and New Hanover’s big night. It’s all of us getting together to have a fun time.”

The football stands at Hoggard were full on the home side Tuesday night. They were packed with parents and middle school band students who plan to be high school band members next year. Hoggard’s Rod Reed added: “At football games we often perform our shows. This is a night to show the parents without football being around and we can showcase each one of our groups individually on the field.”

Video of the performance will be online shortly.
