GREENSBORO — Two companies plan to introduce high-speed wireless internet in North Carolina.

Starting in November, Sprint, followed by Time Warner Cable, plan to offer 4G wireless networks in the Raleigh area.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported Thursday that the new 4G connections will be faster than most commercially available broadband internet services. Sprint says it will provide speeds up to 10 megabits per second. Time Warner’s service will reach speeds of 6 megabits per second.

A test conducted by the Communications Workers of America show North Carolina ranks 34th in the nation for internet connection speeds.

Over the last two years, the average download speed in North Carolina increased from 2.6 megabits per second to 4.5 megabits per second.
