Brunswick County kids are learning core values while playing golf. This fall, students at six Brunswick County schools are spending part of the school day at Cinghiale Creek Golf Course as part of the First Tee program.

The program tries to teach them life skills through the game of golf. Monday’s lesson taught kids how to properly introduce themselves. Then they tried to get a hole-in-one.

First Tee director of programming, Kaitlyn Johnston said, “These kids are out here and they’re learning golf but they’re also learning life skills and character education, which is really, really important because kids don’t always get that today.”

Fourth grader, Michael Bryant said, “I learned that it’s important to greet people so you know them better and be friends.”

“I learned about how we greet ourselves and how we do a firm handshake and look them straight in the eye and how we introduce ourselves,” added 4th grader Kayla Miller.

The kids return to the golf course every two weeks to learn a new lesson.
