Go green, tax-free weekend on Energy Star appliances
Saving energy is not a new concept. The United States has been noting the top performing appliances by awarding Energy Star seals for over fifteen years. They may cost a bit more, but can mean savings down the road.
Lowe’s appliance specialist Debbie Ruddell said, “They’re more expensive but in the long run you’re going to save money, because its going to bring your electric bill down and its also going to bring your water bill down if you pay for your water.”
North Carolina home improvement stores are expecting a big weekend as all Energy Star models will be tax free on big ticket items like refrigerators and washers. The savings can be substantial.
When you are at the store, there are a lot of different appliances to choose from. You want to be careful on which one you buy.
If you look inside the appliances you can see the US Energy Guide which actually tells you how much you can expect to pay per year on your energy bill.
This type of sale, makes helping the environment easy; it really is a win-win situation.
“If you’re concerned about the environment, if you want to reduce your carbon trail, then it’s a good thing to do. Also, it’s going to reduce your utility bills and usually it’s actually going to perform better too,” said building performance specialist Skye Dunning.
But in these economic times, it really boils down to saving money. “We’re all trying to save money; we don’t want to spend money. So Energy Star appliances are the way to go,” added Ruddell.
