RALEIGH — Gov. Beverly Perdue is heading to the nation’s capital again to try to keep federal assistance flowing to North Carolina while avoiding additional spending burdens.

Perdue scheduled a visit Wednesday to Washington, where she plans to meet with U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu and visit White House officials. Perdue said she wants to pitch Chu on a university project for a federal stimulus grant on renewable energy.

The governor wants White House officials to know she’s worried the health care overhaul legislation approved by the House would place new expenses on the states. Perdue also hopes for a visit with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to talk Medicaid costs.

The governor has traveled to Washington many times since being elected a year ago.
