Local artists need interesting material for sculpture

A group of local artists is gathering an unusual material to build an art installation in downtown Wilmington. They are looking for canned food donations.

The artists will use the cans to build a fort-like structure at the Parallelogram art space on 3rd Street. Later this month, they will break down the fort, and donate the canned goods to the Good Shepherd Center.

The project began as a dream for Joselyn McDonald. She hopes this type of event will inspire others to give back.

“We can play films in EM and have music around and art, and celebrate giving in a different way in a new interesting way,” said McDonald.

Right now, the fort is just boxes of cans. They will be assembled Friday night at the Parallelogram.

The public is invited to stop by and help build the fort starting at 7:00 p.m. You still have time to donate canned food for the project.

Drop-off locations are:

Jengos Playhouse
Soap Box
Harris Teeter at Lumina Station
King Hall room 106 at UNCW
Tidal Creek
The Health Food Store on Front and Princess
The Village Market
I Am Salon and Day Spa in Monkey Junction
Parallelogram
