Grand Jury requests indictment against Soles

Video

Body

The Columbus county grand jury found probable cause to seek an indictment against State Senator R.C. Soles, for shooting a man on his property in late August.

Twenty-two year old Kyle Blackburn is a former client of Soles’ legal practice. He says he was leaving the property when he was shot.

SBI agents presented evidence to the Grand Jury this afternoon, regarding the August 23rd shooting. At the end of the day, the Grand Jury requested a bill indictment against Soles, for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Attorney General Roy Cooper’s office plans to present an indictment to the Grand Jury for consideration in January.

Assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury is a Class E felony in North Carolina, punishable by 15 to 31 months in prison. If convicted, Sen. Soles would lose his right to vote, and therefore lose the ability to serve in the State Legislature.

Thursday’s Grand Jury only considered charges for the shooting. The SBI is also looking into allegations of sexual molestation. That investigation is ongoing.
