What’s Happening: December 31
Start the New Year with a splash. Friday, it’s the eight annual Dolphin Dip extravaganza. Meet at the Roland Avenue beach access in Surf City at 11 a.m. That’s when all the entertainment begins. The actual dip is at noon. Proceeds benefit Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.
If you prefer to stay indoors, but want to get out of the house on New Years day, take a trip to the Cameron Art Museum. You can check out the “toying with art” exhibition featuring toys designed and created by artists. Hours Friday are from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission starts at $3 for children.
Saturday night, the rusty nail invites you to get into the spirit of the “blue” year with the first Cape Fear Blues Jam of 2010. It starts at 8 p.m. If you’re a musician, bring your instrument and the Cape Fear Blues Society will provide additional equipment. Admission is free.
Want to laugh your way into the New Year? Saturday night, it’s the 2010 New Year’s comedy show at American Legion post 10. It begins at 9 p.m. and ends at midnight. You can bring in your own adult beverages. Tickets at the door are $20.
If you live in New Hanover County, you can tour the Cape Fear Museum without spending a dime. New Hanover County residents are admitted free to the museum the first Sunday of every month. Museum hours are 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
And that’s what’s happening.
