Body

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is just a week away. This morning the Wilmington Celebration and Parade Committee announced all the activities for MLK Day in the Port City.

The theme for this year’s events is bone marrow. The poster child for this year’s events is Mildred Bethea, who has undergone a bone marrow transplant. This year the celebration committee is trying to raise awareness.

“It all just started from just a parade and now we’ve involved a lot of other civic organizations, non-profits,” MLK Celebration Committee Chair Hollis Briggs said. “Because what we want to do is while we have the world looking at us we want to bring education and awareness to a lot of different situations that we have going on in Wilmington.”

The Celebration Committee will hold a bone marrow drive January 18 on 6th and Castle Streets.
