Daylight break-ins net electronics, liquor, gun

NEW HANOVER COUNTY | Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a pair of home break-ins that occurred during daylight hours last week in which suspects stole electronics, liquor and a gun.

N.C. officials: 2 unattended toddlers die in Charlotte fire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Officials say two toddlers left at a North Carolina home with young siblings have died in a house fire.The Charlotte Observer reports that 2-year-old Josiah Hawthorne and 1-year-old Gabriel Hawthorne died in the fire early Sunday morning.

Seven UNCW students studying in Chile safe and accounted for

Seven UNCW students studying in Chile have all been accounted for after a large earthquake hit the country Saturday, according to a professor with the school.The students are studying in Valparaiso, a city about 370 miles north of Concepcion, which is the largest city near the epicenter of the magnitude-8.8 earthquake.

Web developer expects new Burgaw site ready by May

Burgaw has a new beginning planned for its beleaguered Web site. The Pender County town hasn’t had a working municipal Web site since sometime last summer. A virus attack prompted an automatic Microsoft warning message that clicking on the site could cause problems for the user’s computer.

Manager tied up as robber hits College Road computer store

Sheriff’s detectives are searching for a man who robbed an Internet and computer store after brandishing a gun and tying the manager up.Deputies with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office responded to Cyber Spot, 5120 S. College Road, at 10 a.m. Saturday after the manager of the store reported the armed robbery.
