US residents watching two systems in the tropics
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)- Most of our Labor Day weekend looks nice here in the Carolinas, with ample sunshine and a slight chance of summertime thunderstorms. Other areas of the country are not so fortunate.
Tropical system "Lee" will bring torrential rain to the Gulf Coast. An approaching front will merge with Lee once it makes landfall, and the combined system may bring rain to North Carolina early next week.
Meanwhile, "Katia" continues to move through the open Atlantic. By Wednesday, the system will be located several hundred miles east of the Bahamas. Even with Katia well offshore, indirect effects such as higher surf and rip currents will be possible on our coast starting on Sunday.
Remember, September 10 marks the peak of Atlantic Hurricane Season. You can always see the latest tropical updates at Hurricanes 101.
