Conservative group running ads in support of amendment to prohibit gay marriage in NC

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The legislative arm of a conservative
Christian group is running radio ads urging listeners to ask
certain state lawmakers to support a proposed constitutional
amendment to prohibit gay marriage in North Carolina.

The group Family Research Council Action said it rolled out
commercials on 20 radio stations starting Wednesday that will air
through Monday – the first day the General Assembly returns to
Raleigh for a session on this and other amendments.

The ads target a dozen lawmakers. Voters statewide would
consider the question if it’s approved by lawmakers.

Group Vice President Tom McClusky said it’s spending up to
$10,000 on the ads, which will also ask listeners to attend a rally
Monday morning in Raleigh. Opponents of the amendment also are
running phone banks and holding a rally Tuesday.
