Katia pulls away, Maria struggles to survive
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)- Hurricane Katia passed about 400 miles offshore of Wilmington Thursday. The storm will pull away form the coast Friday. As expected, no rain/wind was felt locally. However, elevated seas and rip currents will be possible through Friday.
Tropical system Maria struggles to survive east of the Leeward Islands. Strong wind shear will keep her in a weakened condition for the next few days. If she survives, Maria will approach the Bahamas Tuesday. From there, the track is very uncertain. Most models take her out to sea, but a few models suggest a closer approach the United States.
Tropical system Nate remains near the Yucatan Peninsula. Nate has the potential to bring much needed rain to Texas, but the track is uncertain.
