NC sees jobless rate climbs again, to 10.4 percent
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina’s unemployment rate jumped in August with fewer workers drawing a paycheck and nearly 12,000 more jobless.
The state Employment Security Commission said Friday the unemployment rate rose to 10.4 percent in August, from 10.1 percent in July. The state’s unemployment rate hasn’t been this high since May 2010.
North Carolina’s jobless rate is worse than the national average of 9.1 percent.
A separate survey shows state and local governments added nearly 14,000 jobs. That reverses two months in which governments shed thousands of public workers.
