Leaf peepin’ season underway in the NC mountains

ASHEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — As summer winds down and the cool air starts coming in, there are few places as beautiful as the North Carolina mountains.

As the leaves turn from green to brown and many other colors along the way, it’s a vacation spot for many during the fall season.

Cat Kessler from the Asheville Convention and Visitors Bureau stopped by “Good Morning Carolina” today to tell us the best time of the season to head west to visit and do a little leaf peeping.

“There is no peak week, and there’s two reason for that. One being in the mountains we have a lot of different elevations, and we also have a wide variety of tree species, so this gives us the kaleidoscope effect that you sort of associate with the southern Appalachian Mountains, and it also means that our season is really long,” Kessler said. “So it’s starting right now at the end of September and can go all the way through mid-November.”

Kessler says whenever you visit there will be color somewhere. The best way to keep up with the fall colors online at http://www.fallinthemountains.com.
