Ft. Bragg soldier charged in shooting death

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) — A Fort Bragg soldier has turned himself in to authorities to face charges in the shooting death of a retired sergeant major in Fayetteville last month.

Fayetteville police spokesman Gavin MacRoberts said Friday that 41-year-old Staff Sgt. Clyde Terrell Cobb turned himself in on Thursday. He is charged with voluntary manslaughter in the shooting of retired Command Sgt. Maj. Raymond Thompson.

The 46-year-old Thompson was found dead in a car at an apartment complex Sept. 9.

Police say Cobb also was shot during a confrontation and was treated and released from Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Cobb is stationed with the 112th Signal Brigade It’s not clear if he has an attorney.
