STORMTRACK 3: Strong storms headed our way
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A large area of thunderstorms in the southern Gulf of Mexico may bring heavy weather our way soon. The disturbance is still disorganized, and doesn’t yet have a clear center of circulation.
Warm water, and generally favorable upper-level winds could allow this system to strengthen into a Tropical Storm before it heads up the coast. Whether it does become a named storm or not, it does appear that the storm will head our way. The greatest threat for strong to severe weather will come throughout the night Tuesday.
A cold front moving across the Midwest will steer the system northward toward Florida and the East Coast on Tuesday. Heavy rain and thunderstorms could begin here in North Carolina as early as Tuesday, lasting through the day on Wednesday. Behind the storm, rapid clearing and cold air will move into the area – bringing crisp Fall weather.
