NC man pleads guilty to dumping contaminated soil
TRENTON, NC (AP) — A Jones County farmer has pleaded guilty to polluting federally protected wetlands by dumping up to 60 truckloads of petroleum-contaminated dirt.
The Sun Journal of New Bern reported that 64-year-old Enoch Randolph Foy Jr., of Trenton entered the plea in federal court in Raleigh.
U.S. District Judge James Dever III has scheduled Foy’s sentencing for February. Foy faces up to three years in prison for unauthorized filling of a wetland.
Court records show a co-conspirator agreed to deliver between 50 and 60 dump truck loads of dirt to the site, where a bulldozer was used to push the dirt into wetlands next to a tributary of the Trent River.
Officials say the fill dirt was contaminated with petroleum.
