Study: NC business has more friends at Legislature
By GARY D. ROBERTSON
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — A nonpartisan group focused upon improving North Carolina’s business climate says the General Assembly became more business friendly this year as the Republicans took control and pushed through several changes.
The North Carolina FreeEnterprise Foundation released its business ratings for the Legislature on Thursday.
The group said the number of lawmakers it considers consistent supporters of a position that promotes free enterprise grew this year after a general decline over the past two decades. The foundation said 66 percent of the Senate members consistently support these viewpoints, compared to 42 percent two years ago. In the House, it grew from 49 percent to 61 percent.
The Legislature approved changes to medical liability litigation and workers’ compensation rules and restricted how local governments could offer high-speed Internet services.
