Occupy Raleigh group denied camping at NC Capitol

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina state government has again denied a request by anti-Wall Street protesters to camp several days on the old Capitol grounds in downtown Raleigh, saying rules don’t allow for an extended stay.

The Department of Administration told the Occupy Raleigh movement Friday it could refile its application under guidelines limiting property use to four hours. Occupy Raleigh wanted to use it starting Saturday through Oct. 30.

Occupy Raleigh said the four-hour limit fails to account for the extent of the economic and political problems their movement seeks to address.

Hundreds of people attended a four-hour Occupy Raleigh rally last Saturday on the grounds. Police arrested 20 people who refused to leave that evening. Another extended permit already was denied.

Small demonstrations have occurred this week on an adjacent sidewalk.
