NC crisis pregnancy centers criticized in report
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Abortion-rights advocates challenging new restrictions on doctors before the procedure is performed in North Carolina are now taking aim at centers that urge women to continue their pregnancies to term.
A group called NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina Foundation said in a report released Monday that many crisis pregnancy centers are offering inaccurate information about the health dangers associated with abortion for women. The group says its findings are based on what it calls an undercover investigation of more than 60 centers over the past year.
Dozens of the centers will receive a part of the proceeds from new “Choose Life” license plates that now can be issued in North Carolina.
Physicians who provide abortions already have sued to block a portion of new restrictions taking effect Wednesday.
