McCrory getting money from Perdue’s past donors

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Some past contributors to Gov. Bev Perdue’s campaign from eastern North Carolina are shifting their giving to the political committee of likely repeat Republican challenger Pat McCrory.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Wednesday that more than a dozen donors at a fundraiser for the former Charlotte mayor last week previously gave money to Perdue. Some previously backed fellow Democratic Govs. Jim Hunt and Mike Easley.

Former Jacksonville Mayor George Jones hosted the fundraiser that raised more than $55,000. Jones is a registered Democrat and former Perdue supporter. He said Perdue has moved to the left, and he can’t support her policies.

Perdue campaign spokesman Marc Farinella downplayed the shift, saying it’s part of the usual dynamics when an incumbent governor runs for re-election.
