Home set on fire for practice
BRUNSWICK COUNTY (WWAY) — A home on Sunset Harbor Road in Brunswick County was donated and set ablaze Saturday for firefighters to learn more about the burn.
Firefighters from all over the county came out to put out the flames in an effort to better prepare themselves for the real deal. The Sunset Harbor and Zion Hill Volunteer Fire Department coordinated the training burn.
The department has been using the house for training for the past few weeks, but Saturday, it was burned to the ground.
“We don’t get enough hands on training,” Fire Chief John Eeten said. “The training towers can’t do it for us. They can give us a simulation, but it’s not real world. This type of house here is real world. We have actual room sizes. I have five rooms in there.”
The guys and girls got to practice rescues, moving around obstacles and putting the fire out quickly and safely.
