CFCC honors veterans at annual ceremony
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As it does each Veterans Day, Cape Fear Community College took time today to honor the men and women who have served our country in the armed forces.
Dozens came out to recognize those who served and to hear thoughts from veterans in attendance. Guest speaker Paul Bergmann, a Marine who served two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, says he misses the camaraderie that came with serving overseas, but that he has the utmost pride and appreciation for our country.
“Once you’ve been over there and you see the way they live and the education system that they have, it’s no comparison to what we have over here,” Bergmann said. “In another country people have never heard of cell phones, they’re walking around in bare feet and they’re dirty. They never know when they’re going to take another shower, or where they’re going to live or lay there head next. So don’t take things for granted here.”
CFCC was recently recognized as a military-friendly college by “GI Jobs” magazine.
