Carolina Beach Police Chief, Ocean Rescue leader resign

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Carolina Beach Police Chief William Younginer announced his retirement today.

The StarNews reports the move comes after allegations of an affair between Younginer and Alicia Lachance, who was in charge of the town’s Ocean Rescue program. Lachance resigned today as well. The newspaper said Town Councilman Bob Lewis told it the town investigated the allegations earlier this year but found no evidence. But when we asked Lewis about the allegations, he referred all questions to Town Manager Tim Owens.

When we asked Owens if there was any connection between the resignations and the allegations he could “not get into that.” According to Owens Younginer said in an e-mail he is retiring to spend more time with his family.

Mayor Joel Macon says Kurt Bartley will be the interim police chief. The change happens December 1.
