Ex-Marine charged with wife’s murder under $1M bond
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A former Marine accused of killing his ex-wife is in jail under $1 million bond. New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 48-year-old Keith Waters last night for the murder of his wife Kay at their home on Hanover Avenue in Castle Hayne.
Waters was in court for his first appearance today. District Attorney Ben David says the charge could be changed to first-degree murder in the future.
According to court records, Waters was convicted in 2009 of assault by strangulation and sentenced to probation.
Relatives of the victim said they did not have any comment about what happened saying it was too soon to talk about the incident.
Friends and neighbors declined to go on camera as well, but they did say they were not surprised by the murder, saying the Waters “needed desperate help”.
Waters is due back in court December 15.
