Protesters interrupt speech by Wells Fargo CEO

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Protesters in North Carolina disrupted a
speech by the head of one of America’s biggest banks, and at least
a dozen were escorted from the talk.

Wells Fargo’s chairman and chief executive John Stumpf was 30
minutes into his talk Wednesday at North Carolina State University
when protesters stood up and chanted slogans. The audience
applauded Stumpf as the protesters chanted.

When security personnel escorted people out, other protesters
stood up and chanted.

Stumpf also spoke at the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce’s
annual meeting, where Occupy Winston-Salem protested but didn’t
interrupt the meeting.

The protestors in both cities are part of the wider Occupy Wall
Street movement, which has protested income inequality and the role
that banks and big businesses have played in the global financial
crisis.
