NHC appoints Ted Davis as Chairman
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners has a new leader. At a meeting Monday night, commissioners voted unanimously to appoint member Ted Davis as the new Chairman of the board. He will replace commissioner Jonathan Barfield.
Being appointed as Chairman is old hat to Ted Davis, having bore the title four times in the past.
“I think it’s an honor and a privilege to have my fellow commissioners to allow me this opportunity to serve as chairman again,” Davis said.
Davis is ready to get to work with a focus on the county budget.
“We’re looking at alternative revenue sources and always try to cut spending, we’ll be looking to see what we can do there to hopefully go into this budget session and I always go with the thought of not having a tax increase and I will do that again this year.”
And then there’s the spotlight on commissioner Brian Berger, after his arrests and erratic behavior. In September, Davis and fellow commissioners called on Berger’s resignation. Now, he says he hopes to get back to county business.
“There are some concerns that I have,” Davis said. “We are five members that represent the citizens of this county and I’m going to do everything I can to make it so we can work together, put personal feelings we have to the side and let’s do what we’ve been elected to do.”
After his recent heart surgery, Davis say his most immediate concern, dealing with the stress the job can bring.
“I just want to keep everything on a good, even keel.”
