Opening statements expected Wednesday in Lovette trial
HILLSBOROUGH, NC (WTVD) — It’s taking longer than expected to pick a jury in the trial of Laurence Lovette Jr. and opening statements are now likely Wednesday morning, WTVD-TV reports.
Lovette is the second man charged in connection with the murder of UNC Student Body President Eve Carson.
Due to extensive pre-trial publicity, each juror is being interviewed privately.
Police say Carson was kidnapped from her off-campus home, forced into her SUV and driven to various ATMs while Lovette and Demario Atwater withdrew cash from Carson’s accounts.
They say the pair then killed her and dumped her body on the street.
Atwater is already serving a life sentence.
Lovette faces the same fate if he’s convicted.
