UNC trustees set to meet on ‘personnel matter’
CHAPEL HILL, NC (AP) — The board of trustees at the University of North Carolina has scheduled meetings to discuss “a personnel matter” amid reports the school is about to name Southern Mississippi coach Larry Fedora as its next football coach.
Meetings are scheduled for Thursday and Friday morning. The school said some portion of those meetings are to be conducted in closed session.
The board is expected to “take action” during Friday’s meeting. Any deal to hire Fedora would be subject to approval by the trustees. That means North Carolina couldn’t introduce Fedora to the public as the new coach until Friday at the earliest.
The Tar Heels were looking for a permanent replacement for Butch Davis, who was fired amid an NCAA investigation into improper benefits and academic misconduct within the program.
