NC lawmakers look at cost of museums, fairs

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina legislators are sizing up how much money is being spent on state attractions from museums at the state fair.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Friday that the General Assembly is looking into whether the staffing, hours and admissions fees should be adjusted as part of a Republican effort to reorganize state government.

GOP Sen. Andrew Brock of Davie County says the Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum near Greensboro is so rarely visited that it costs the state $30 per guest. The museum is the site of an early school for African-American girls.

The legislative study will look at whether some museums and historic sites should have shorter or different hours or should charge higher fees.
