Brothers sentenced for roles in NC terror plot

NEW BERN, NC (AP) — Two brothers have been sentenced to federal prison time for helping their father plan to carry out terrorist attacks against US military and other targets.
Twenty-two-year-old Zakariya Boyd was sentenced Tuesday to nine years in federal prison and 25-year-old Dylan Boyd was sentenced to eight years.
Each pleaded guilty to conspiracy to provide support to terrorists, which carried a maximum of 15 years in prison. Both cooperated with prosecutors and on Tuesday apologized for their actions.
Federal prosecutor John Bowler told Judge Louise Flanagan the brothers were isolated and controlled by their father, Daniel Boyd, and his radical anti-American views.
The Boyds were among eight men who raised money, stockpiled weapons and planned for jihadist attacks against American military targets and others they considered enemies of Islam.
