FIRST ON 3: Teacher busted for DWI while texting on school night
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County teacher is charged with DWI and texting while driving after an accident last week. Theresa Suzanne Jones-Carpenter rear-ended a van pulling into a parking lot from Dawson Street around 12:15 a.m. Friday, according to Sgt. C.M. Hardee of the NC Highway Patrol.
Jones-Carpenter is listed as Suzanne Carpenter, a first grade teacher, on the website for Castle Hayne Elementary School. A school district spokeswoman said the district does know about the arrest, but as of Tuesday, she said no personnel action has been taken as administrators waited to find out the actual list of charges.
Sgt. Hardee says Jones-Carpenter is also charged with failure to reduce to speed. He said her blood alcohol level was over the legal limit of .08.
Jones-Carpenter is due in court February 14. A listing to contact her could not immediately be found.
