Severe weather threat continues this afternoon
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Damaging winds and even an isolated tornado are threats we’re monitoring in the StormTrack 3 Weather Center as a powerful cold front moves across the Carolinas today.
Some storms will be able to produce high winds over 50 mph at times. This threat for damaging winds continues until approximately 5pm.
A secondary threat that we are watching is the possibility for a few storms to rotate, and produce a brief tornado. This is not a high risk, but a possibility nonetheless. If any tornadoes form, we’ll have all the latest warnings for you on-air, online, on Facebook, and on Twitter.
Earlier in the day a tornado warning was issued for a possible waterspout that was close to coming ashore in Oak Island and Caswell Beach. There has not been any confirmation of a tornado touchdown at this time.
This system is a fast mover, and all of the rain will be ending around 5pm this evening with skies rapidly clearing as we head into the overnight hours.
Remember, you can track the storms at home with our new Interactive Radar.
