STORMTRACK 3: Wind chills in the teens likely across area Tuesday
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An Arctic air mass and gusty winds will combine to make for a few bitterly cold mornings across the area through mid-week with temperatures and wind chills in the 15-20 degree range likely.
A cold front has already pushed through the area, allowing cold air to filter into the Carolinas. Temperatures will hold steady in the upper 40’s to near 50 today, but once the sun sets the real cold will begin to settle in.
Temperatures will plummet into the upper 20’s by Tuesday morning and winds sustained as high as 20 miles per hour will create conditions that feel like 15-20 degrees around 6am. Even though the day will be completely sunny, highs will only reach the upper 30’s Tuesday with wind chills stuck in the 20’s all day long.
Wednesday morning, actual temperatures will reach the upper 10’s with calm winds. This first real battle with cold air will be short-lived as temperatures will look to return to the 50’s by Wednesday afternoon with 60’s on tap for the weekend.
