STORMTRACK 3: Snow flurries spotted; Arctic air arrives

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Bitterly cold air continues to be funneled directly into the southeast from Canada. This will produce wind chills in the upper 10’s and low 20’s across the area this morning.

Even though skies will be completely sunny today, we won’t find much relief from the cold weather. Actual high temperatures will top out right around 40, and winds around 20 mph with higher gusts will keep wind chills in the 20’s across the area all day.

Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning, temperatures will bottom out in the low 20’s and upper 10’s, meaning one more frigid night across the area. Finally by Thursday, temperatures will start to moderate leading toward a warmer weekend.

Snow flurries were spotted across the viewing area from Bladen County all the way to the coast, including downtown Wilmington. No major accumulation was seen; just a light whitening of some car rooftops and other cold surfaces in spots.
