ONLY ON 3: County and city still discussing ballpark despite growing tensions
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Despite a report on WECT.com and StarNewsOnline.com in which New Hanover County Commissioner Jonathan Barfield says the county is, “backing off any help to bring a minor league baseball team to Wilmington after a contentious city council meeting Tuesday night,” talks continue even today to bring a team.
We have learned that there was a meeting between City of Wilmington staff and New Hanover County staff this afternoon to discuss the park.
New Hanover County Commissioner Jason Thompson tells us he understands Barfield’s frustration, but says he’s still very interested in bringing a team and and park to Wilmington.
Commissioners haven’t met this year so Barfield legally can’t speak on behalf of all commissioners since there have been no motions or discussions.
