NC mail gets through despite wreck
BURLINGTON, NC (AP) — Neither rain, nor sleet, nor overturned tractor trailer.
Postal officials say most of the U.S. mail involved in a wreck when a tractor trailer drove off the side of Interstate 40/85 in Burlington made it to a processing center to be delivered on time.
The Times-News of Burlington reports the wreck happened Wednesday afternoon but the mail made it to a processing center in Richmond, Va., early Thursday in time for prompt delivery.
Postal Service spokesman Carl Walton says less than 10 percent of the mail being transported from Atlanta to Richmond was lost in the wreck.
Officials say the truck driver lost control of the rig after a sports utility vehicle hydroplaned in front of the mail truck.
Neither driver was seriously injured.
