Warren gets restraining order to stop removal hearing

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A judge has postponed a Brunswick County Commission hearing scheduled for Tuesday to see if there’s cause to remove Commissioner Charles Warren from the DSS Board.

Warren filed the request yesterday asking for the delay. In the motion, Warren alleged that DSS Board member Pat Sykes and Brunswick County resident Jenny Quaglia have on multiple occasions disrupted DSS Board meetings. Warren alleges Quaglia’s disruptions are because of “her political opposition” to him.

The filing also accuses Sykes, Quaglia and Brunswick Beacon reporter Carolina Curran of “being opposed to Charles Warren and have sought or desired his removal from his positions with Brunswick County government for political reasons.”

The motion also gives Warren’s version of what happened at the December 13 DSS Board meeting, where Warren threw out Sykes and Curran for being disruptive. It also says that on December 19 the County Commission “voted to hold an illegal and improper hearing to determine if (Warren) should be removed from his appointed position as Member of the DSS Board due to his removal of Sykes and Curran from the… DSS Board meeting.”

Warren has declined to comment on the injunction. Instead he referred questions to his lawyer.
