FIRST ON 3: Occupy Wilmington holding funeral Friday
WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — On the eve of the two-year anniversary of the US Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling, the Occupy Wall Street Movement, community groups, individual citizens, members of the Tea Party, Democratic Party & GOP are protesting the decision that grants corporations “Personhood,” which entitles them to buy elections and run our government.
Occupy Wilmington will hold a funeral procession for “Corporate Personhood” tomorrow at noon. Bearing a coffin & dressed in black the silent march will carry the casket to the offices of Sen. Richard Burr and Rep. Mike McIntyre.
Members of Occupy Wilmington will gather signatures to deliver to governmental bodies — town and city councils, NC Legislators, Congress and the President –demanding these entities pass laws denying corporations the same rights as citizens.
“We the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.”
