New Hanover Co. Assistant County Manager also retiring

WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) -– Assistant County Manager André Mallette has announced he will retire effective May 1, 2012, with more than 31 years of service to New Hanover County. With an additional four years of prior service, Mallette is retiring with over 35 years of local government service. Mallette has served as Assistant County Manager since April 2006.

Mallette said, “I have seen many changes in the organization over the past 30 years; however the one constant has been the commitment of county employees to provide quality service to the citizens of the county. I am proud of the relationships I have established with county employees at all levels of the organization in all county departments. These relationships have assisted me greatly in achieving the county’s goals.”

Mallette began his career with New Hanover County in September of 1980 as a Personnel Officer. In July of 1982, the position was reclassified to Personnel Director, and then in September 1990 to Director of Human Resources. After his promotion to Assistant County Manager in 2006, he filled a dual role, maintaining his responsibilities of Human Resources Director until July 2007.

In his current position as Assistant County Manager, Mallette has direct supervisory and liaison responsibilities for a variety county departments and committees, and he routinely assists the County Manager with developing the annual budget, developing policy recommendations for Board of Commissioner consideration, and manages special projects and initiatives demanding additional attention.

County Manager Bruce Shell said, “André has been a pleasure to work with. His ability to evaluate different issues with logical harmonious outcomes will be greatly missed. He has been an asset to New Hanover County.”
