UPDATED: Man shot near downtown Wilmington
THE LATEST FROM THE WILMINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT: WPD officers responded to a report of shots fired and located the victim, age 27, on the front porch of a residence in the 700 block of S. 5th Avenue. (NOTE: The victim had sustained gunshot wounds to the hand and chest.) Officers administered first aid until EMS arrived. The victim was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment. The victim told investigating officers that several men had tried to gain entry through the back door of his residence. He fought with them in the backyard until they shot him. After his attackers fled, the victim ran from his own residence and knocked on a couple of neighbors’ doors before getting help at the residence where officers found him. Several witnesses who provided information said the assailants may have left the area in a 2009 Honda Accord, possibly white with tinted windows.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating a shooting after a man called New Hanover County Dispatch claiming he was shot in the leg and attacked by five men.
The incident happened around 10:30p.m. Sunday near Fifth and Wooster Streets.
No word on the victim’s condition.
