Lieutenant Governor candidate pleased with NC state employee union’s nod

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – A Democratic candidate for lieutenant
governor has declined to discourage the union representing North
Carolina state employees from backing her even as she laments the
influx of money by new outside groups to influence campaigns.

Linda Coleman told reporters Monday she welcomes support from
the State Employees Association of North Carolina, which endorsed
her last week. The outgoing state personnel director and longtime
state employee often assisted pushing association goals while she
served in the Legislature.

Association leader Dana Cope said recently well over $1 million
from national and state sources could be used to back Coleman in
the Democratic primary. State Sen. Eric Mansfield is also in the
primary.

Coleman said separately she didn’t like the emergence of
“super” political action committees, whose donors aren’t subject
to giving limits.
