Panel keeps looking for savings at NC attractions

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Lawmakers aren’t finished just yet with an
effort to find cost savings at North Carolina’s state museums and
historic sites.

A leader of a legislative oversight panel formed another
subcommittee Wednesday to examine the findings of a report last
month and offer recommendations for the full General Assembly.

The report by the Legislature’s Program Evaluation Division
suggested the Museum of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City and the
Richard Caswell Memorial in Kinston close and operating hours be
reduced at seven other locations.

A previous subcommittee declined to make recommendations based
on the report, deferring to budget-writers who will meet this

Panel co-chairman Rep. Julia Howard of Mocksville says the final
recommendations may not include site closings but that the report
still could generate some changes.
