Blackbeard artifacts on display in Fayetteville
FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) – Artifacts from the flagship of Blackbeard the pirate are now on display at the Museum of the Cape Fear in Fayetteville.
The state Department of Cultural Resources says the items from Queen Anne’s Revenge will be on display through May 31. They’re on loan from the N.C. Maritime Museum in Beaufort, which is the official repository for shipwreck artifacts.
The exhibit includes iron shot for cannon, small caliber lead shot for firearms, a grinding stone used for sharpening tools and weapons, a small piece of gold, and other items. Exhibit panels offer information on Blackbeard, his ship and other subjects.
Blackbeard captured the ship in 1717 when it was a slave ship. His ship ran ashore in June 1718 in what’s now Beaufort Inlet.
The wreck was located in 1996.
